What Does an MOT Test Check

The MOT test checks that your vehicle meets basic road safety and environmental standards. During the test, key components of the vehicle are inspected, including lights, brakes, tyres and wheels, steering and suspension, seatbelts, windscreen and wipers, vehicle structure, registration plates, and the vehicle identification number. How Long Does an MOT Test Take?

What happens after the test?

Once the MOT is complete, you will receive the result along with any advisory notes. If your vehicle passes, the advisories will simply highlight areas that may need attention in the future but are not serious enough to cause a failure.

If your vehicle fails its MOT, we will clearly explain what needs to be repaired before it can pass. Many customers choose to have repairs carried out at the same workshop for convenience, especially as retesting can be simpler when the vehicle remains at the test centre.

According to GOV.UK guidance, some vehicles only need a partial retest. If the vehicle stays at the test centre for repairs and is retested within 10 working days, there is no charge for that partial retest. In other cases, a partial or full retest fee may apply.
